INTRODUCTION
Hello Everyone, i’m KDT and today we are gonna be seeing about a awesome tool which helps us in the same exact way as a VPN does, But it is not a VPN. It is none other than Cloudfare 1.1.1.1. Lets see about this tool in detail. In order to completely understand this, we need to know the basics of DNS(Domain Name System).
WHAT IS DNS?
The Domain Name System (DNS) is the phone directory of the Internet. Basically, Humans access information online through domain names, like kdttechy.com or youtube.com. Web browsers interact through IP addresses and DNS translates domain names to IP addresses so browsers can load Internet resources.
WHAT IS 1.1.1.1 AND HOW IT WORKS
1.1.1.1 is a public DNS resolver operated by Cloudflare that offers a fast and private way to browse the Internet. Unlike others, 1.1.1.1 does not sell user data to advertisers. It has also been measured to be the fastest DNS resolver available.
Now there would be question in mind, what are DNS resolvers. They are nothing but a server that manages the doman to ip translation. They are also known as Recursive resolvers.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE
So, lets discuss about the difference between this and a VPN. VPNs generally connect us to a virtual tunnel resulting in changing our IP address as the name stands Virtual Private Network. On the other hand, what 1.1.1.1 does is that, it changes our DNS config to 1.1.1.1 and this results the same. But there are some main factors of difference. Let’s discuss it.
- While using a VPN, your connections are encrypted but it’s not the case in 1.1.1.1. It does not encrypt your data.
- Also there are major speed differences while using 1.1.1.1, it’s much faster compared to a VPN as VPNs change our IP and connect us to a virtual server. But 1.1.1.1 only changes our DNS config.
CONCLUSION
I conclude by saying that, if you cannot afford a VPN and security is not your concern and only wish to have speed, you can definitely go for 1.1.1.1 as it is also completely free. But, if you wish for a good security and speed too, you should stick with the VPN.
